How does ultra-fast charging work on the power-limited grid?
Many countries are facing problems with supplying sufficient electricity to businesses. An ever-increasing number of companies are in the green transition exchanging fossil-fueled heavy vehicles to electric heavy vehicles – and are investing in and installing DC chargers in their depots. Unfortunately, the speed of grid capacity expansion and connections to the individual sites isn’t on par with the demand.
Should they then postpone their EV-projects or do alternative solutions exist ?
Yes – a storage battery (BESS) can be a good solution.
Integrated battery storage makes the difference. It's continuously charged with the power of the public grid and stores it for the upcoming charging process. As soon as the energy is needed, the charging solution can deliver the required energy to the vehicle ultra-fast. In parallel, the integrated battery storage continuously charges, which once again significantly increases efficiency.
Our customers are using it in two ways:
- Charge the battery when electricity prices are lowest and charge the EV’s with the stored electricity when electricity prices are high.
- In case of immediate need for fast charging of more vehicles, e.g. logistic/delivery companies the battery is used to support the grid which often doesn’t offer enough short term capacity.
ChargePlan collaborates with storage battery providers and supports both scenarios.
ChargePlan Attending Power2Drive Europe 2026 in Munich
ChargePlan will be attending Power2Drive Europe in Munich from 23–25 June 2026, Europe’s leading trade fair for charging infrastructure and e-mobility, held as part of The smarter E Europe.
ChargePlan launches 7-day spot price forecast
Electricity prices are only known one day ahead. That creates a challenge when the fleet is idle over the weekend. Should vehicles be charged on Saturday or Sunday to achieve the greatest savings?

Depot charging can be a attractive source of income
As the rollout of depot charging for EV fleets accelerates, an overlooked business opportunity is emerging: Revenue from ancillary services in the electric grid.
